Surgical
Since its establishment in 2004, the Surgical Department at JDWNRH has been committed to delivering a broad range of surgical services, from minor outpatient procedures to complex emergency surgeries. Staffed by a team of three skilled surgeons, including expatriates hired by the government, the department manages a diverse caseload, providing timely and compassionate surgical care.
Located in the Old Building, Chambers 8, 9, 10, and 11, the Surgical Department also maintains a 15-20 bed ward for preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring continuous support for patients throughout their surgical treatment journey.

Facilities and Services
Outpatient Services
- Chamber Locations: OPD in the Old Building, Chambers 8, 9, 10, & 11.
- OPD Timings: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM) and Saturdays (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM).
- Evaluation of new cases, follow-up of post-operative cases, and selection of cases for elective surgeries.
- Minor procedures such as suturing, dressing, and minor wound care provided in the minor OT.
Inpatient Services
- Dedicated ward with 15-20 beds for preoperative and postoperative cases.
- Daily ward rounds conducted by surgeons from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, providing attentive monitoring and care.
Special Investigations
- Diagnostic services, including endoscopy for gastrointestinal issues (upper and lower), ultrasound, and urology procedures for urinary disorders.
- Cancer detection and diagnosis through endoscopic and ultrasound technology.
Emergency On-Call Services
- 24-hour emergency on-call availability for urgent cases, ensuring timely surgical intervention when needed.
Surgical Camps
- Participation in surgical camps to provide services in remote areas, enhancing accessibility to surgical care across Bhutan.
Referral Services
- Collaborative care with other departments and healthcare facilities, coordinating referrals for specialized treatment and care.

- Ongoing education and skill enhancement activities for the team, supporting professional development in the field of surgery.
