Cytology Section
The Cytology Section focuses primarily on gynecological specimens, particularly Pap smear screenings, to support early diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer. The section also handles non-gynecological specimens, including various body fluids, sputum, and fine needle aspirations (FNAC) of lumps suspected to be malignant.
Key Activities
- Pap Smear Screening: Major activity aimed at early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
- Non-Gynecological Cytology: Analysis of body fluids, sputum, and FNAC specimens to identify potential malignancies.
- USG-Guided FNAC: Provides fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) for patients with deep-seated lumps and nodules, guided by ultrasound.
Equipment & Technology
The section is equipped with:
- Automated Staining Machine for efficient and standardized specimen staining.
- Multi-Headed Microscopes to facilitate collaborative examination and detailed analysis.
Reporting & Quality Assurance
- Expert Reporting: All specimens are processed and reported by skilled cyto-technicians and pathologists, ensuring reliable and accurate diagnosis.
- Quality Assurance: Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and participation in the National External Quality Assurance Scheme (NEQAS) ensures consistent quality and accuracy in reporting.
- Pain-Free FNAC Procedures: FNAC is performed by trained pathologists, ensuring that procedures are conducted with skill and minimal discomfort.
