Dentistry

The Department of Dentistry began in 1956, established by the 3rd Druk Gyalpo, who commanded the construction of the first allopathic hospital in Langjophaka, Thimphu. The dental unit moved with the hospital to its current location in 1974. Over the years, the department has expanded its services and facilities, including the addition of an OPD block in 2002, which features six treatment chambers, a prosthodontic laboratory, and a VIP clinic. The new hospital complex, completed in 2009, allocated one wing on the ground floor to the dental department, making it the largest dental center in Bhutan, providing primary, secondary, and tertiary services while serving as a teaching department for the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health (FoNPH) under the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB).
