Branches of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department
Biochemistry & Immunology Section
Biochemistry and immunology section carries out large array of routine and special chemistry tests performed on all kinds of body fluids. The laboratory is automated to accommodate the high workload. Tests performed are closely monitored and quality controlled.
Cytology Section
Cytology section deals majority with gynecological specimens for reporting the Pap smear screening and non-gynecological specimens like various body fluids, sputum, and fine needle aspiration for the lumps suspected of malignancy.
Hematology Section
The Hematology Laboratory Unit functions as the apex laboratory in the country. It serves as a referral center for all other hematology laboratories in the country for confirmation of various hematological disorders. It is an advance and high-quality laboratory which provides a 24-HR service with accurate and precise laboratory investigations.
Histopathology Section
The Histopathology section is manned by a highly experienced and qualified team of Doctors (Pathologists), and it’s supported by a team of technical staffs. Section carries out histopathological processing and cellular examinations of various pathological sites for diagnoses.
Microbiology Section
Microbiology section forms a major part of the laboratory consisting of four different units namely STI, Clinical Parasitology, TB and Bacteriology. Clinical Microbiology section carries out a wide range of Microbiological investigations.
Sample Collection
The section is formed by group of lab assistant trained in phlebotomy. They collect and receive the samples for laboratory investigations only for Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital laboratory.
